While on his way to a basketball game, Jace halted his bike ride when he saw a small dog lying by the roadside, her body covered in wounds. The sight of the terrified and injured dog compelled him to stop and help, although he couldn’t take the dog with him right away. Determined to make a difference, Jace made several phone calls to secure assistance for her.
This simple act of kindness marked the beginning of a transformation in the little dog’s life.
Jace reached out to his mother, who soon arrived with a team from the Mission Pawsible animal rescue. When the team found the dog, she was curled up and initially distrusted people approaching her. The rescuers were committed to helping the dog, even if it meant trying to locate her owner. Surprisingly, they discovered that the dog did have an owner despite her poor condition.
As Mission Pawsible posted on Facebook, “She was once a stunning western breed puppy, but she wasn’t maintained to the standard of care these animals require. Today, she is covered in dreadlocks, ticks, fleas, and is fearful of most people. This highlights the need for pet care education, both physically and mentally.”
The dog’s neglected appearance suggested she had never received proper care or grooming, much less a regular bath. While trying to coax her into a crate with food, they found the dog too wary to fall for it. Eventually, after about half an hour, her owner appeared on a scooter and managed to put a leash on her.
Mission Pawsible recounted, “The ‘owner’ agreed for us to take her. The sadness and confusion in Lexie’s eyes were heartbreaking. Removing owned animals from their humans is truly a horrible experience. She may have dreadlocks and have been neglected, but she still loves that man.”
Despite her neglected state, the little dog seemed to have a remaining bond with her owner. Yet, a better life awaited her just around the corner.
At the veterinarian clinic, she received immediate care, including a much-needed haircut and a delicious meal, which lifted her spirit. Once her fur was trimmed, her wounds were evaluated—fortunately, they weren’t severe. Although Lexie was still sad and uncertain, the clinic staff were hopeful. They believed time and love would help her trust again, and they were right.
The hope for a new beginning was fulfilled sooner than anyone expected. Lexie met her new mom, Michellina Suminto, who instantly fell in love with her. Search for a companion for her other dog, Edison, had come to an end with Lexie being the perfect fit. Quickly, Lexie’s fur grew back and transformed her into a fluffy, adorable dog. She and Edison formed an immediate bond, becoming the best of friends.
“She is such a brave girl now, I am so proud of her,” Michellina shared with The Dodo.
Lexie blossomed into a confident dog, unafraid of people, all because one person decided to stop and make a call.
This highlights how small acts of kindness can lead to significant changes in the lives of those in need.
