When rescuers learned of Atrey’s plight, they wasted no time in freeing him and giving him his new name. Upon his rescue, it became evident that Atrey was in poor health.
His hind legs were severely weakened due to lack of use, and examinations showed he had a compression tumor in his spine along with a lung infection called dirofilaria.
Despite months of neglect, Atrey showed resilience. Even when in pain, he found joy when given toys, playing like a carefree pup. Preparations began for surgery to remove the tumor—a procedure that needed him to be in high spirits.

The veterinarians sent the tumor for analysis, anxiously waiting for results over a trying week. To their relief, the tumor was benign. Atrey began a rehabilitation process involving gentle exercises and learning to walk with the help of a wheelchair.
Twelve days after surgery, his stitches were removed, and he demonstrated incredible determination. His spirit remained unbroken as he fought to regain his mobility.

Nine months later, Atrey started hydrotherapy sessions. His back muscles were frail and demanded significant work. Despite over a year of therapy in different settings, progress was slower than hoped.
While he was able to stand and take a few steps, he continued to rely on a wheelchair for most activities.

Atrey’s journey to full mobility is ongoing, and those who have followed his story maintain hope. With continued care and perseverance, the day will come when Atrey can walk independently.
The dedication of those involved in his recovery is evident, and their efforts ensure that Atrey now has a chance at a better life.
