Every day, small acts of kindness remind us of the enduring power of compassion.
In Fort Lupton, Colorado, the dedicated team at Soul Dog Rescue witnesses this firsthand.
These volunteers tirelessly work to support dogs with nowhere else to go, sometimes improvising with creative solutions or relying on quick-acting locals like Shimayne, who recently stepped up in a remarkable way.

It all began when Shimayne, from Chinle, Colorado, contacted Soul Dog Rescue about a mother dog and her newborn pups she discovered in a pile of broken concrete.
Having monitored the pregnant dog for some time, Shimayne suspected the puppies had been born when she noticed the dog was no longer pregnant. Although she couldn’t find them immediately, she persisted in her search.
With the help of a dog-loving neighbor, Shimayne scoured the area. Just as hope began to wane, they heard faint cries. They discovered the mother had hidden all seven puppies in a narrow crevice beneath the rubble—a difficult place to reach.

The situation grew dire as heavy machinery operated nearby, its paths threatening the hidden animals. Understanding the need for urgent action, Shimayne and her neighbor squeezed into the cramped space, carefully extracting the mother and her puppies one by one.
To their immense relief, the entire family was safe and appeared healthy, with the devoted mother having done all she could to shield them from harm.
Shortly after the rescue, Shimayne’s friend offered to foster the furry family, and the mother dog, now named Shuri, along with her puppies, was brought to a safe home.

The happy ending continued as Shuri and two of her puppies found loving, forever homes, where they are now flourishing.
Soul Dog Rescue shared, “Five of Shuri’s pups are still available for adoption, but we are incredibly grateful to those who saved their lives.”

As the remaining puppies await their new families, the rescue team is hopeful the right match will be found soon.
The heart of this story is clear: Shuri and her babies no longer need to fight for survival. Their days of hiding are over, replaced by lives filled with warmth, protection, and love.
