Once abandoned and left to endure the harsh winter elements, Prima was in a precarious fight for survival. She was not only starving but also seriously ill, edging closer to death with every passing day.
During their usual rounds of feeding abandoned animals in the park, volunteers Jannel and Robby stumbled upon Prima. The sight was heartbreaking; she lay weakly in a shelter meant for stray animals. Severely underweight, her belly was bloated, likely due to a serious heartworm infection, indicating she was consuming anything in desperation just to survive.

Corridor Rescue later expressed via Facebook, “This girl was so starved that when she was dumped, she ate anything she found and continued to eat.” Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the volunteers reached out to Corridor Rescue, understanding Prima’s life was hanging in the balance. Despite her initial fear of humans, Prima seemed to sense she could trust her rescuers, allowing them to usher her to safety.
At the veterinary clinic, a dire diagnosis awaited Prima. She had advanced heartworm disease, with the worms having migrated to her pulmonary artery, making any surgical intervention nearly out of the question. With her condition considered critical, she was initially placed in hospice care, with the focus on providing comfort and love in a nurturing environment. While the details of her past remain unknown, Prima’s rescuers surmised that she had undergone years of neglect, leaving her with both physical and emotional scars.

However, after much consideration, the rescue team decided to pursue a rigorous heartworm treatment involving several injections over multiple months. This treatment represented Prima’s last shot at survival, and the team was determined to help her pull through.
To their relief, Prima started showing encouraging signs during the course of her treatment. The bloating in her belly subsided, and she began to regain her strength. As shared by Corridor Rescue, “She wasn’t going to let anything from her past stand in her way of a happily ever after. This little miracle refused to be held down by the word hospice any longer.”

Following the completion of her treatment, Prima experienced an incredible transformation. No longer the frail dog that had been found, she blossomed into a spirited and loving companion cherished by her foster family. Her transition from a frightened, neglected animal to a joyful, trusting pet was nothing short of remarkable.
Having turned her life around, Prima was ready for her new beginning in a forever home. Her new family embraced her, providing her with the second chance she truly deserved.
