The Jɑbulɑni herd of elephants residing in the HERD sanctuary in South Africa delighted on another beautiful day as they roamed freely. The sanctuary, founded by Adine Roode, provides a home for orphaned baby elephants.
At HERD, these little ones are integrated into the elephant herd, ensuring they have a supportive family and are never alone. Limpopo and Bubi, the first elephants to approach Adine, greeted her with a warm welcome.
Underneath the picturesque sky and lush greenery, the Jɑbulɑni herd engaged in constant foraging alongside the adorable albino elephant named Khɑnyisɑ. Tich, Khɑnyisɑ’s caregiver, received a friendly trunk greeting from Limpopo, the first elephant born into the herd.
To benefit from waste materials, Adine filled erosion holes in the reserve with elephant dung, leftover branches, and lucerne. This innovative approach allowed them to repurpose waste for beneficial purposes.
While the herd focused on their meal, one elephant named Fishɑn raised his trunk, seemingly eager to greet someone. Meanwhile, Lundi, another member of the herd, peacefully chewed on branches along with the others. Bubi dedicated her time to eating and even fetched a tree branch for herself.
Subsequently, Lundi and Tokwe, two elephants from the herd, embarked on an exploration of the surrounding area. Eventually, all the herd members relocated to another spot, searching for more green branches to feast on.
Khɑnyisɑ, the albino calf, walked alongside her allomother Kumburɑ, with herd members Zindogɑ and Fishɑn following closely behind. Fishɑn and Tokwe couldn’t resist grabbing a snack along the way.
Khɑnyisɑ, the adorable albino calf, captivated everyone with her playful antics as she investigated foliage using her foot and trunk.
Determined and resourceful, she entertained onlookers as she attempted to break a branch with her trunk, even employing her body weight and teeth when necessary.
Although she focused on mastering the art of collecting food, Khɑnyisɑ also enjoyed grazing on the abundant grass around her. Her smaller size made it easier for her to maneuver than the larger elephants in the herd.
Satisfied with her efforts, she enjoyed the lush green grass, passing by her herd member, Fishɑn, who was engrossed in reaching for the topmost branches. With his robust trunk and distinctive forehead resembling a bull, Fishɑn showcased his remarkable strength.
Meanwhile, Khɑnyisɑ chose to graze beside Tokwe, almost camouflaged amidst the tall bushes, while other herd members kept a watchful eye on her. Kumburɑ playfully interacted with the branches of a dead tree while Lundi stood proudly beside her son, Mɑmbo.
While the herd indulged in their meal, Adine’s attention was drawn to a Golden Orb Spider, creating an exciting moment for everyone as they enjoyed foraging in the wilderness.
