Herman stands out not just for his vibrant orange coat but also for his endearing quirks. This lovable feline has a crooked bottom jaw, a distinctive snaggletooth, and a condition that makes him wobbly on his feet.
Nevertheless, his spirits remain high, and his affectionate purring never ceases. All he needed was someone to give him another chance.
“Herman is a sweet and happy orange tabby with Cerebellar Hypoplasia, or CH,” explained a spokesperson from Milo’s Sanctuary. “CH is a neurological condition that affects motor coordination.
Herman also has a deformed jaw, which accounts for his famous ‘toof’ that juts out on the lower-left side of his mouth. He may also be partially blind.”

In August 2013, Herman was brought to a rescue group in Colorado after his original owners decided they could no longer care for him.
A compassionate foster parent welcomed him into her home, providing love and care for five months. Milo’s Sanctuary in Burbank, California, heard about Herman’s story and offered him a forever home.
“Herman is now living with us, his forever family, as part of Milo’s Lifetime Care program,” stated Milo’s Sanctuary.

Since his arrival at the sanctuary, Herman has shown himself to be a lively and determined little cat. He greets his human mom every morning by rolling onto his back, presenting his belly.
“He loves his belly rubs and will flip onto his side or back to let us know he’s ready for them.”

A year ago, during one of Herman’s beloved rubs, staff noticed something special. As they pet him, Herman began slowly flexing one paw, then curling it forward, repeating with the other paw in a gentle, slow back-and-forth motion.
“For the first time in his two years with us, we saw Herman attempting to knead, or ‘make biscuits’. For a special needs cat like Herman, coordinating his paws like this took enormous effort. It was a touching moment for us all,” the sanctuary shared.

Each achievement Herman makes is a celebration at Milo’s Sanctuary.
“Herman taught us about love, strength, and how to enjoy life no matter what your ‘limitations’ might be.
We learned how to care for a high-needs, special needs cat who appeared fragile on the surface but in reality was strong-willed, spirited, and incredibly loving,” said Patsy from Milo’s Sanctuary.

Six months after Herman’s arrival, the sanctuary introduced another special cat, a CH kitten named Bear, to be his companion. Herman quickly embraced his role as ‘big brother’ and the two have become close friends.
With his sweet disposition and indomitable spirit, Herman continues to captivate everyone he meets. Despite his wobbly gait, he approaches life with an upbeat attitude. Herman is never without a purr.

“Some people have called Herman ‘ugly’ or ‘weird’ looking. We think Herman is PERFECT and handsome. He has great character and he loves life.”
For Herman, a little bit of love has gone a long way, making him a content and joyful kitty.

According to Herman, there can never be too many belly rubs!

“We’re sure you’ll be impressed by Herman’s slow-motion kung-fu action with his back leg,” invites the sanctuary.
