Abandoned Kangal Shepherd Rescued from Turkish Landfill Begins Heartwarming Road to Recovery

Kratos, an 8-year-old Kangal Shepherd, was discovered in a dire condition at a landfill in Corum, Turkey. This abandoned dog was severely malnourished, dehydrated, and had lost his fur due to the many sores covering his body.

Volunteers from “Rescuers Without Borders” found Kratos on a chilly day, collapsed in a muddy pit at the hazardous dumpsite.

His expression of despair was heartbreaking, as it seemed he once believed in having a loving home before ending up in such a harsh environment.

Kratos’ situation reflects a troubling pattern in Turkey, where animal advocates have rescued more than 800 dogs from landfills over the past two months.

Many of these animals, sadly, did not survive to receive help. Typically, dogs are abandoned by their owners when they become old, ill, or no longer serve a purpose.

As for Kratos, his recovery has been slow due to his weakened immune system, but caregivers are optimistic that he will make a full recovery in about two months. His fur is growing back, and once fully healed, Kratos will be ready to find a forever home.
