An endearing scene unfolded when a baby elephant was rescued by its mother after getting stuck in the mud while bathing.

The young elephant was enjoying a peaceful dip in a lake but was in trouble when it couldn’t climb out of the water.

The mother elephant lifted her three-month-old calf to safety using her mighty trunk like a crane. The rescue operation was a touching display of maternal care as she hoisted the little one out of the muddy trap.

Ken Watkins, a 64-year-old photographer from Greyton, South Africa, captured this remarkable moment during his visit to Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe.

He recounted, “Small elephants sometimes slip into the water in the national park, and this one couldn’t get out. I was worried about the calf, and it took the mother two minutes to pull the stranded baby out of the water.”

Once safely back on dry land, the tiny elephant could walk away from the watering hole to dry off. The duo then wandered off together, disappearing into the distance.
