Noodle, a shelter dog with health challenges, was close to being euthanized due to his medical condition and the lack of adoptive interest.
On the night before his scheduled euthanasia, Noodle had no clue a compassionate woman would soon alter his destiny.
Noodle, affected by a degenerative brain disease, experienced sudden fainting spells and instability while walking. Abandoned at a Detroit shelter, his former owners never returned, and no one else stepped up to adopt him. As his time at the shelter expired, a vet recommended euthanasia, sealing his fate for the next day.
However, Tiffany Perkins, the founder of PAWS Friend Network—a group dedicated to special-needs and older shelter dogs—learned about Noodle and couldn’t stop thinking about him. By morning, she was at the shelter, determined to rescue him.
From the moment Perkins took Noodle home, she sensed he was meant to be there. His loving demeanor quickly won her over and formed an immediate bond. Unsure if his situation was hospice-level critical, Perkins was certain about one thing—Noodle would be surrounded by love and receive the best care possible.
Noodle quickly became inseparable with Perkins’ other dog, Luke. The duo found comfort in each other, often curling up together. Noticing Noodle was underweight, Perkins introduced him to a special diet, helping him gradually gain weight and strength. He showed his appreciation daily with joyful kisses.
Perkins discovered that excitement triggered Noodle’s fainting episodes, prompting her to create a calm and predictable environment for him. She made her home more accommodating—lowering her bed for easy access, setting up a comfy couch by the window, and ensuring a peaceful space for Noodle.
“Seeing him happy and viewing the world from his window is one of my greatest joys,” Perkins shared.
Noodle thrived in his new environment, enjoying simple pleasures like watching rain by the window while cuddling with his mom and Luke. Despite his hurdles, Noodle loved life. He relished walks, beach visits, and basking in nature’s splendor, his bright eyes and broad smile reflecting his happiness.
Perkins deeply cherishes Noodle, describing him as “the biggest, sweetest marshmallow.” She believes his presence helped her through a tough period, providing comfort and healing as she mourned a previous pet.
“Noodle is a personal comfort to me… His arrival was perfectly timed. We were grieving the loss of our previous dog, and he truly helped us heal because he’s so kind and sweet, just a big teddy bear,” Perkins expressed.
Thanks to Perkins’ generosity, Noodle now enjoys the loving and happy life he always deserved. Perkins continues to advocate for senior and disabled shelter dogs, ensuring they get the second chances they deserve. For Noodle, this second chance transformed his world entirely.
