A tiny puppy, not yet two months old, was discovered abandoned in a fragile state on a city street. The little dog had suffered broken legs and a spinal injury, which left him unable to move. Despite his dire predicament, the puppy displayed a strong desire for affection.
When I first came across the puppy, who was later named Clark, he managed to wag his tail bravely, seeking a comforting embrace even though he was in great pain due to his injuries. Along with his shattered bones, Clark was severely undernourished and highly anemic.
The attending veterinarian, who named him Clark, was shocked by the extent of his condition. Clark also faced difficulty urinating, possibly due to a condition similar to polio, requiring the painful insertion of a urinary catheter to ease his discomfort.
Clark underwent several major surgeries, with our team committed to supporting him through every stage of his recovery. Complicating his health challenges was his inability to have regular bowel movements, which demanded additional medical care.
Although the treatment process was grueling, Clark’s endearing spirit provided us the motivation to push forward. Remarkably, he began to show signs of improvement and successfully gained a kilogram in weight. The next crucial step in his recovery was a significant spinal surgery scheduled for the following week, which we hoped would greatly improve his mobility.
The surgery was successfully completed, bringing a hopeful outlook for Clark’s ongoing recovery.
